Keeping a diary

Monitoring your blood sugar level is only worthwhile if you then draw conclusions from the values that you measure. It is simplest to record your measurements in a diary. These records can then form the basis for consultations with your doctor or diabetes team. They are a useful tool for adjusting your dosage; they help you to compare special situations, and they provide important assistance in making you aware of fluctuations over the course of the day.

Nowadays most blood sugar meters can be connected to a computer using a special cable to let you manage the data. Some data processing programs are limited to handling the data obtained from one particular meter; others can process the data obtained from a variety of meters and are therefore more flexible.
