Last week, the winners of the Ypsomed Innovation Award 2022 were honoured. The award, worth a total of CHF 100'000, is presented every two years by the Ypsomed Innovation Fund Foundation. With this award, we support the universities of applied sciences and universities in the Espace Mittelland region and contribute to making developments from research useful for society.

Innovations from the region

This year's winner, the Swiss medical technology company machineMD, is working on innovative solutions for the early detection of brain diseases such as stroke, multiple sclerosis and brain tumours. The team has developed the Neurophthalmoscope Neos, a device that measures the movements of the eyes and pupils via a virtual reality headset. With Neos, eight fully automated examinations including visual field and pupil functions can be performed. The examination time is reduced from 45 to 10 minutes compared to conventional methods. The result is quantifiable data that allows doctors to make better diagnoses.

Dominik Brügger, Head of Technology at machineMD, says:

We are very pleased that we were able to convince the jury and achieve first place. Together we are working to advance medical technology. With the Innovation Award, projects like ours receive more attention and thus increase the chances of putting them into practice. The prize money enables us to drive our research forward and brings us one step closer to our goal of developing Neos into a diagnostic device.

He is convinced that the award by an independent jury of experts will be an important help to them in future financing rounds.
