Taxes in Switzerland

In Switzerland, income and wealth taxes are levied at the federal, cantonal, and municipal levels. Tax rates vary depending on your place of residence. Unlike in many other European countries, taxes in Switzerland are not deducted directly from wages, but are paid individually – based on an annual tax return – directly to the tax authorities, in installments if desired.

Employees who are not residents of Switzerland, do not hold a Swiss passport, or do not have a C residence permit pay withholding tax, which is deducted directly from their salary by the employer and transferred to the tax authorities.
