Karin worked as an Assistant Manufacturing at Ypsomed for over six years. In her free time, she enjoys active pursuits such as going to the movies or spending time with friends, as well as quieter moments at home on the couch. Within the company, she has developed her professional skills ‘sideways’ with a great deal of curiosity and initiative, moving into new areas and taking on new responsibilities in human resources. We met her for an interview and talked to her about how she works behind the scenes to ensure that everything runs smoothly.

How old are you, where are you from and what do you like to do in your free time?
I am 47 years old and grew up in Oftringen in the canton of Aargau. I have been living in the charming baroque town of Solothurn since 2011. In my free time, I like to go out and visit concerts or go to the cinema. But I also appreciate quieter moments: In summer, you will often find me in my deckchair with a good book in my hand. And of course, spending time with friends is a must. A cosy get-together, good conversations and lots of laughter make for a perfect day for me.
What is your role at our company?
I worked as an Assistant Manufacturing in the Clean Room department from October 2018 to the end of May 2025. In this role, I supported both our Head of Manufacturing and the Production Manager in various tasks.
My day-to-day work was very varied. This included time management and absence management, among other things. I also looked after our training management (LMS) as an admin. Another important area is access to the clean room – I coordinated all the necessary medical checks required for access. This also included managing cleanroom clothing to ensure that production staff were well equipped.
In addition, I was often the first point of contact for colleagues in production when it came to organisational or everyday questions. I always tried to be approachable and find solutions together. I enjoyed supporting day-to-day production and working behind the scenes to ensure that everything ran smoothly.
What do you like about your work and the company?
Over the years, I have been part of a great team where cooperation and mutual support are truly lived. I particularly appreciate the variety of my tasks. As an assistant, I gained insights into many areas and worked with different departments. I also felt that my contribution was valued here in the company, and that motivated me every day.
What is a typical working day like for you?
There wasn't really a typical working day for me, because every day brought new tasks and challenges. Of course, there were certain routines, but things usually turn out differently than you think. You have to remain flexible, constantly adjust your priorities and sometimes squeeze in things that suddenly become more important, even though they weren't planned.
How did you develop at our company?
My interest in human resources motivated me to train as a human resources administrator alongside my job and, a few years later, to become a payroll expert. I was able to grow not only professionally, but also personally, and I gained a lot of experience. The opportunity to move in a new direction within the company was particularly valuable to me.
I haven't just developed professionally, I've grown within the company: step by step, with new tasks, new knowledge and a growing area of responsibility.
Now I'm looking forward to taking the next step and starting as a Human Resources Expert Payroll & Social.
What is the working atmosphere like at Ypsomed?
I find the working atmosphere at Ypsomed very pleasant. Over the last few years, I have had the opportunity to work with many helpful and committed colleagues.
Of course, there have also been changes, for example due to the sale of the needle production business. Such phases are not always easy because they bring uncertainty. But I also see them as an opportunity to break new ground and develop further.
Do you commute? What is your experience with this?
I am often on site because I enjoy regular personal interaction with my colleagues. At the same time, it is also nice to be able to concentrate on my work from home. I usually travel by car. With my new job in Burgdorf, public transport will certainly also be an option for me.
Name three words that you would use to describe Ypsomed.
