Ypsomed is committed to circular economy

As a responsible and innovative company, Ypsomed has committed itself to the concept of circular economy. It is our goal to set a good example as a sustainable company in the medtech industry.

The health sector is directly linked to higher life expectancy and better life quality. However, it also causes significant environmental impacts. As a responsible company with a long-term orientation, we are committed to reducing our ecological footprint as much as possible. We therefore have committed ourselves to the strategy of circular economy.

Maximising value while minimising pollution

Circular economy means maximising added value of resources while minimising environmental pollution throughout the entire value chain. The ReSOLVE1 concept divides circular economy into six areas of action:

We have already implemented or initiated environmental improvements in a number of action areas. In others, we are still in the planning stage.
Heat pump at Ypsomed location in Solothurn
Ypsomed uses renewable energy with a heat pump.

Regenerating at Ypsomed’s production site in Solothurn

At our Solothurn site, we almost entirely use renewable energy for heating and hot water. This is possible thanks to the use of a heat pump. This heat pump does not use ambient heat as is customary, but the waste heat from the compressors. This enables us to achieve an excellent degree of efficiency.

Looping by reusing trays for injection pens

We supply the assemblies of our injection devices in trays to our customers for final assembly. In future, we will reuse these trays in a pilot project with selected partners. They will be circulated between our customers and us and be reused several times.

Exchanging materials of injection pens

The housing of our injection devices are made of conventional plastic. Our goal is to manufacture the housings and other parts from biological or recycled plastics. We are therefore currently conducting life cycle assessment calculations and comparing the different materials to identify the most environment-friendly option.

We are constantly maximising the value of our products. At the same time, we are minimising our impact on the environment. We are in regular exchange with partners and customers of our industry. Our common goal is a re-orientation of the industry towards a circular economy, for the environment, the people and future generations.
