Our new digital hub in Barcelona

On 3 May 2022, our new Software Delivery Centre in Barcelona was officially opened: Albert Castellanos, Minister of Economy and Competitiveness and our CEO, Simon Michel, laid the foundation for a flourishing collaboration in Spain in the presence of numerous media representatives.

Welcome to Rambla Catalunya 52: our employees moved into the new offices in Barcelona in April. On 3 May, the official opening ceremony of our new digital base took place. Digitisation is one of the current trends in healthcare and medical technology. The colleagues in the Software Delivery Centre focus on the development of apps and clouds – which are already of great importance to us today and will become even more important in the future.

Expanding our portfolio through digitisation

Digitisation dominates the 21st century and thus it makes sense for Ypsomed to focus our product strategy and investments on it. Our product portfolio has expanded from purely mechanical and mechatronic devices to digital products and services. This means we are well prepared for digitisation. The number of employees in our software department is continuously increasing and will continue to grow in the future. Setting up our software hub outside of Switzerland makes sense because we cannot find enough talent in Switzerland to implement our growth plans in this area. Barcelona is home to Spain's best talent in medical technology and software development: we are looking forward to this important addition to the Swiss locations and enrichment for our software development.

"With our new Software Delivery Centre in Barcelona, we are expanding our expertise in the software sector. I am very happy about our cooperation with our Spanish colleagues so that we can remain competitive in this area. Unfortunately, we can't find the necessary staff in Switzerland. Barcelona, as a digital hub with many technical universities and talents in this area, is better suited to expand our know-how", says Simon Michel, CEO, about the new office space.

International cooperation

As a global company, cooperation across national borders is essential. This is why our last few months have been exciting and challenging: our software developers in Barcelona, together with their colleagues in Switzerland, are responsible for the development of digital solutions for the entire Ypsomed Group. Numerous guests were invited to the opening ceremony, including Albert Castellanos, Minister for the Economy and Competitiveness, and Hanspeter Mock, Swiss Ambassador to Spain and Andorra. Together with our CEO, Simon Michel and the Managing Director of the Ypsomed Delivery Center, Rafael Navajo, the new office premises were inaugurated and the international cooperation between our employees in Spain and Switzerland was strengthened.

We are looking forward to the tasks ahead – and that we can tackle them together with Swiss and Spanish know-how.
