The team saw how every component plays a role in the final product, and for many, it was the moment when everything clicked. They understood not only the technical aspects but also the high quality and precision of every piece, as well as the integrity of the final product — realising how their work contributes to improving someone’s life.

Designed for high-volume efficiency
Ypsomed’s Schwerin site is optimised for high-volume manufacturing, enabling the efficient production of up to 125 million UnoPens annually within the next two years — three times the capacity of our Solothurn site.
Strategically located near Hamburg, one of Europe’s largest ports, the facility benefits from streamlined logistics that reduce transport times and support fast, reliable delivery. Schwerin complements Ypsomed’s established production network, which includes facilities in Switzerland and in near future also China. Together, these sites balance high-volume production with smaller, highly customised manufacturing, ensuring Ypsomed can meet diverse customer needs with both specialization and scalability.

Frank Schiffmann is Product Area Head Pens with Ypsomed Delivery Systems. He leads product teams taking care of the broad range of injection pen platforms at Ypsomed, be it CE marked reusable pens or components for pre-filled pens in high volumes. Frank has 25 years of experience in the development, registration and industrialisation of injection pens for pharma customers worldwide. He holds a BSc in Engineering and an EMBA in Innovation Management.
