Our way to our own renewable energy
In line with our commitment to sustainability, Ypsomed has been making significant strides in promoting renewable energy. Since 2021, we have sourced 100 % of our electricity from renewable sources. Our efforts have now extended to generating renewable electricity on-site through photovoltaic systems. This year, we proudly commissioned a new solar system at our site in Schwerin, Germany.
Thousands of panels capture the sun’s energy
The photovoltaic system in Schwerin was officially commissioned in April 2024. Almost 4,000 modules were installed in this state-of-the-art system that boasts an output of 1,520 kilowatt peak (kWp) under optimal conditions, and we anticipate an annual yield of approximately 1,2 million kWh. With the completion of our new production hall, Hall D, the system will be extended by an additional 300 kWp, ensuring the entire roof of our Schwerin plant is equipped with photovoltaic panels.
Up to 30% of the electricity demand covered
Our new solar power plant, with a peak output of 1,500 kWp, is expected to generate around 1.2 GWh annually. This production is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of approximately 400 German households, or 30% of the electricity purchased by our plant in 2023.
Key data on the photovoltaic system
- Modules: 3888
- Inverters: 14
- Cable length: 45 km

Future plans and commitment
We are expanding our solar energy initiatives to other sites, including Burgdorf and Solothurn (Switzerland), as part of our NetZero Program. This ongoing commitment underscores our dedication to reducing energy consumption and promoting renewable energy.
