Burgdorf – medac GmbH has selected an autoinjector from Ypsomed for the relaunch of its methotrexate pen. The new Ypsomed autoinjector was launched in various countries in the first quarter of 2024.

medac is the market leader in subcutaneous methotrexate products. The German pharmaceutical company, based in Wedel near Hamburg, introduced the world's first autoinjector pre-filled with methotrexate (MTX) in Europe ten years ago. This medication is used by patients with various autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and Crohn's disease. It is administered on a weekly basis.

The new autoinjector provides several features:

  • The injection process is initiated in two simple steps: removing the protective cap and pressing the device against the skin automatically triggers the injection. No button press is required.
  • Audible signals indicate the start and end of the injection, providing patients with added confidence.
  • The injection needle is concealed both before and after the injection by a safety mechanism, protecting against needle-stick injuries and ensuring that users do not see the needle.
  • The autoinjector has a square shape that is easy to grip and prevents it from rolling on flat surfaces.

The YpsoMate platforms from Ypsomed have been developed for simple and safe handling of various medications and volumes. The autoinjectors are designed so that even people with impaired grip and vision can administer their medication easily and safely themselves.

Study confirms user-friendliness
