News – Ypsomed Delivery Systems

SmartPilot for YpsoMate enables integration into a broad range of digital health ecosystems through Ypsomed's standardized Software Development Kit (SDK), giving pharmaceutical companies greater flexibility in how they develop and scale connected therapy solutions.

Today, YpsoMate autoinjectors support 20+ indications across multiple commercialized products, alongside use in clinical development programs. This breadth provides a proven foundation for pharmaceutical companies looking to use the platform from clinical development through to commercial deployment.

SmartPilot for YpsoMate adds a digital layer to this foundation. The reusable connected add-on guides users during injection, automatically captures injection data and enables its transfer to digital health solutions.

One integration approach, multiple digital health possibilities

Digital health requirements can differ considerably between therapies, programs and markets. Pharmaceutical companies may therefore work with different digital health partners to meet specific requirements, making the interoperability of connected devices an important consideration.

SmartPilot for YpsoMate is designed for seamless integration with mobile apps. Through Ypsomed’s Software Development Kit (SDK), digital health partners can add SmartPilot connectivity using an approach that helps accelerate onboarding and reduce integration complexity.

The SDK encapsulates device communication, security, and device management, allowing partners to focus on the patient-facing digital experience. For pharmaceutical companies, this can reduce implementation effort, improve interoperability, and support scalability across clinical and commercial programs.

The SDK was also included in the SmartPilot regulatory submission scope and cleared as part of the 510(k), providing a pre-cleared device-to-mobile interface and an efficient path to integration.

Connecting clinical and commercial use

By leveraging the same connected-device concept, pharmaceutical companies can collect objective device-generated data across different stages of the pharmaceutical product lifecycle.

CliniPilot, a connected add-on for YpsoMate autoinjectors designed for clinical trials, captures objective data on injection behavior and therapy administration.

The device-generated data can give sponsors greater visibility into patient adherence and treatment execution to support clinical study monitoring and interpretation. CliniPilot can be seamlessly integrated with EDC systems and ePRO applications, enabling efficient aggregation of device-generated and patient-reported data within existing clinical trial workflows.

For marketed products or therapies approaching launch, SmartPilot extends these connected capabilities into patient support programs, supporting patient onboarding, adherence, persistence and engagement. At the same time, combining device-generated data with patient-reported information collected through companion apps can help healthcare professionals bridge the gaps between visits and gain a more continuous view of patient progress. Over time, this creates a unique strategic asset for pharmaceutical companies by enabling longitudinal insights into adherence, symptom management, and real-world therapy behavior at scale.

Together, CliniPilot and SmartPilot can provide greater continuity in data and user experience from clinical development through to commercial use.

SmartPilot’s interoperable approach builds on this continuity by enabling integration across different digital health ecosystems, giving pharmaceutical companies greater flexibility as connected therapy solutions move toward commercial deployment and scale.
