Ypsomed and Stevanato Group are collaborating on the integration and compatibility of EZ-fill® prefilled syringes (PFS) into the YpsoMate platform and expanding capacity for high-viscosity formulations. The collaboration further strengthens Ypsomed’s offering in high-dose drug delivery applications.
Ypsomed and Stevanato Group are further developing the integration of Stevanato Group’s prefilled syringes into Ypsomed’s YpsoMate autoinjector platform. The joint effort focuses on enabling smooth and reliable integration of 1 mL and 2.25 mL syringe formats, with further on-going expansion to larger volumes as 5.5 mL.
As part of this collaboration, Ypsomed and Stevanato Group have jointly conducted comparative studies on the YpsoMate 2.25 mL platform using Stevanato Group’s pre-filled syringes with ½ inch and 8 mm Special Thin Wall needle configurations. Special Thin-Wall (sTW) needles feature an enlarged internal diameter to optimize the delivery of highly viscous drug formulations without increasing needle gauge, while reducing injection force for enhanced patient comfort and usability. The results confirm full compatibility with the device. The studies also show that the 8 mm needle improves overall injection performance when delivering higher viscosity formulations. This supports the growing need for high dose drug delivery, where formulation complexity and volume continue to increase.
Further testing is ongoing, including evaluations of siliconization variants (Nexa® sprayed on silicone PFS and Alba® cross-linked silicone PFS) and aging performance, as well as additional studies on the YpsoMate 1 mL platform. These activities aim to further expand the range of compatible configurations.
Through close technical alignment and continuous testing, Ypsomed continues to build its high dose delivery offering and deepen collaboration with partners across the drug delivery ecosystem.
