Providing value beyond therapy monitoring
SmartPilot consists of a reusable add-on with built-in sensor and wireless communication technology, and a related mobile app to be used with the 2-step autoinjector YpsoMate.
At the heart of SmartPilot is an advanced sensory solution that allows real-time tracking of the injection process without modification to the proven 2-step autoinjector platform YpsoMate. Relevant information on injection time and sequence of the handling steps, such as pressing against skin, triggering the injection, holding the autoinjector during injection, and end-of-injection are recorded and wirelessly transmitted to the mobile app and cloud.
The mobile app can be customised to meet specific therapy and patient needs. Supporting information may be an injection map recommending patients where to inject next (Screen A) or the injection history where injection time, injection success, and patient self-reported wellbeing at the time of injection are recorded (Screen B).
Reaching stakeholder integration
SmartPilot allows the sharing of transparent, easily digestible information on therapy adherence with all relevant stakeholders. Contents of the associated mobile app can be customised to meet specific patient and therapy needs. For instance, it may remind patients when to perform the next injection, confirm to caregivers when the last injection was successfully completed, or alert the HCP in case of handling errors.
Rely on in-use feedback to improve therapy adherence
SmartPilot provides value beyond pure therapy monitoring. Specifically, it guides patients in real-time through the injection process. Firstly, the add-on has built-in advanced acoustic and visual feedback linked to specific events such as successful completion of injection. Secondly, the associated mobile app instructs users regarding handling steps, informs patients in-use about handling errors and provides instructions on how to avoid these in future.
Minimise handling errors
Information pertaining to the current injection status is transferred in real-time to a smartphone where information is displayed on the related mobile app. Video-enhanced instructions for use guide patients through the injection. As such, SmartPilot recognises and differentiates between early removal of YpsoMate before end of injection as well as before end of dwell time.
This document highlights technically feasible performances of SmartPilot. Any regulatory implications thereof shall be discussed on a case-by-case basis during the customization project with Ypsomed.
